AUT Hospitality Services is a melting pot of diverse and industry experienced professional people.

Led by Director David Green with a lifetime of experience in hospitality to Ayu in the kitchen from Indonesia, who by the way makes excellent sandwiches, we have around 15 countries represented in the team. Each with a specific role, your Hospitality Services team are committed to providing a world class service to Auckland University of Technology, stakeholders, students and staff. We also have a lot of fun in the process.

Who we are

David Green
Director AUT Hospitality Services
David is a fourth generation hotelier tracing his hospitality roots back to 1897 when his Great Grandfather bought his first Hotel. From growing up in his family's hotel in Devon, David moved on to study and work in the UK and then on to Australia and New Zealand, working as a Food & Beverage Manager for Southern Pacific Hotels.

He opened his own restaurant in 2000 and then went on to run Hoyts Cinemas and opened Snowplanet as well as base backpackers in New Zealand. Most recently he has developed his own hospitality executive coaching practice, and as a result of this was engaged by SKYCITY to coach their food and beverage management team, eventually taking over as Casino Food & Beverage Manager for SKYCITY.

David was also instrumental in launching the Service Professionals Association of NZ and has acted as Chief Judge Front of House for the New Zealand National Culinary Fare. David has been with AUT since June 2010.
Paul van Niekerk
Associate Director
Paul has worked in the food service industry for 27 years, mostly in South Africa, starting out at large contract catering companies, supplying food service operations in airports, manufacturing businesses and aged care.

He has set up several large restaurants and has run a successful family catering business, as well as managing franchised cafes catering into hospitals with staff food services and retail operations.

Paul arrived in New Zealand in 2008 and worked for a major food service company before joining AUT in 2011.He has been part of the development and growth of Hospitality Services to date and enjoys the challenge of keeping the ship sailing in the right direction. Paul is passionate about growing and developing people in a team focussed environment.

To relax there's nothing better than watching a good game of cricket or rugby and enjoying a "braai".
Jack Mpobpan
Support Manager
An alumni of AUT, Jack has been in the hospitality and events technology industry for over 15 years and specialises in event management, events audio visual, events production, point of sale technologies and retail services.

His role with AUT Hospitality Services is varied, any day could see Jack leading the audio visual team, technical support, directing live shows, overseeing financial administration, supporting various projects, editing videos and overseeing health & safety for Hospitality Services.

He is passionate about live sound, event production, and audio visual technologies and is growing his team to meet the increasing need for professional audio visual services within Hospitality Services.
Matthew Farley
AUT Group Chef
Matt has been a chef for over 20 years and is an alumni of the AUT School of Hospitality and Tourism.

He has worked in a range of hotels and restaurants across Auckland, specialising in top end banqueting and out catering. With a strong passion for fresh and innovative cuisine and a belief in farm to plate practises, Matt endeavours to have all food made in-house by his highly trained team of chefs within the AUT Hospitality Services kitchens.

One of his greatest passions is competing in cooking competitions, pushing his skills to the limit and keeping his food cutting-edge; continually striving to be at the top of his game.

Matt also coaches young chefs in competition and has been judging at a national level for the last eight years as well as expanding his love of charcuterie to the benefit of many AUT clients.
Glen M Bailey
Team Leader, Conferences and Events
Glen has 5 years of international conference and event management experience, working on clients' events in Ireland, Scotland, England, Portugal, Spain and New Zealand.

This, combined with a background in performing arts as well as having lived abroad in both China and England, allows Glen to connect and work with a wide range of clients understanding their requirements to provide the best result possible.

Glen's recent move from a venue based position in Auckland also allows him a greater knowledge of what clients are looking for when sourcing a venue for an event.

Glen enjoys the challenge of each event, the appreciation of attention to detail and ultimately the reward for a job well done. Glen has been with AUT since October 2013.
Anna-Marie Fabricius
AUT Hospitality Site Co-ordinator
Anna-Marie has an extensive background in event operations, having worked in the Auckland industry for 10 years.

Possessing a keen eye for detail and a passion to deliver professional and exciting events and conferences, Anna-Marie is always ready to take on a new challenge and maximise her client experience. With exceptional communication and relationship management skills, Anna-Marie is an integral part of the AUT Hospitality Services team and we are more than excited to have her on board.

Anna Marie enjoys travelling to experience new and different cultures.
Himanshu Sheogaonkar
Event/Systems and Technical Co-ordinator
Himanshu has been the part of the AUT team since 2010 with degrees in hospitality gained in India as well as here at AUT, and has been actively working in the industry for 8 years.

Himanshu has a strong focus on attention to detail which makes him the ideal candidate to oversee the Events software and administer all of Hospitality Services IT needs. In the last 7 years Himanshu has moved through the ranks from service to operations, to his current position as Events/Systems and Technical Coordinator.

Himanshu loves to travel and extend his culinary skills, bringing back different ideas to experiment with at home.
Joon Lee
Senior Catering Operations Co-ordinator
Joon has 10 years food and beverage management experience in several 5 star hotels in Auckland, including the Sheraton, Langham and Stamford Plaza Hotels.

He joined AUT in 2013 and now manages the operations team on all campuses, delivering a high standard of service, presentation and ensuring that all events run smoothly.

Joon has a love for event décor and design, particularly centre pieces, ensuring that events look fantastic at any time of the day or night. Joon is studying part time towards gaining a Master's degree in International Hospitality Management to improve his knowledge and expertise.

Now that the dust has settled on a very successful LaTiCE 2018 conference weekend, we would just like to thank the team at Events for the excellent service and food over the course of the conference. It helped fuel some great conversations! I know that many of our overseas guests were very impressed by the food, and there has been lots of Facebook envy from their friends! In particular Ajit did a great job of making sure things ran smoothly on site and was a gracious and helpful host. So your team have done a great job of showcasing AUT as a global conference venue.

International Gambling Conference 2018

We are writing to express our gratitude for the outstanding job Glen Bailey did in ensuring that the recent Internation Gambling Conference ran smoothly. The biennial conference has been held at AUT since 2014 and is a significant event for the whole event sector, locally and internationally. As with any conference, there is a considerable amount of work that goes into planning and resourcing of an event this size. This year was particularly challenging as we didn't have a project manager so we relied on Glen to cover many of those additional tasks.

Allow me to express my gratitude for your tremendous contribution to this year’s Australasian Association for Theatre, Drama and Performance Studies (ADSA) conference (27-30 June). It’s hard to imagine how little we knew of what we were getting into when we began the journey over a year ago. You’ve kept us steady-on throughout, not simply managing the logistics and holding the budget, turning them from hugely daunting prospects into ordinary business, but also helping us to sustain the integrity of the event.

I would like to commend AUT Hospitality Services and in particular Glen Bailey for their efforts in ensuring that our Microscopy Conference held last week was very successful and ran very smoothly. I have had several comments from delegates noting how much they enjoyed the meeting; what great facilities we had for presentations, the trade displays and general mingling, and how much they enjoyed the food. Auckland 2016 Youth Sailing World Championship

I would like to thank AUT Hospitality Services for the amazing job you did for catering the whole event and hosting the Closing Ceremony for the 2016 AON Youth Sailing World Championships. We had over 600 sailors and Coaches from 64 countries, all with different food requirements and you handled it a breeze. Nothing was an issue and you just got on and altered the food as the requests came in. We also wanted to trial a lunch ordering system, so each person could choose their own lunch. Again this was no issue for you and was easily handled by your team. This was much appreciated by all the competitors who have such different food requirements.
